I have a gate that's sagging.
The fence and gate are going to be replaced in a couple of years, but I'm thinking of trying to fix the gate until then.
The lock latch has been moved up each year as the gate sags more, so now it's time to straighten the gate instead
There is a diagonal brace missing.
Do you think it's enough to add one of those, and how do you think I should attach it?
Will it hold to just screw into the crossbars and through a few of the boards?
How would you others have done it?
Unhook the gate and straighten it. Screw in a brace from the lower rail to the upper rail. It should be attached between the rails with a tight miter so it fits perfectly, no sloppiness with the miter!
The brace should go from bottom left to top right.
Attach it to both the existing rails and the fence pickets.
You can also attach a support wheel on the latch side of the gate.

Don't people usually build gates with a frame? Here there are only a top and bottom rail, none on the sides.
I think it would have been easier, and better, if there were corners to attach the diagonal brace to.
As long as the rails don't crack when I screw into the miter, maybe it'll be enough together with the boards.
From the lower hinge to the upper rail's corner I've got covered (I've watched on YouTube haha).
A support wheel feels a bit excessive since the gate isn't going to stay for that long, I think. The fence rails are starting to rot in places so everything will probably be replaced within a year.
Then I think the wheel would need suspension since the ground isn't completely even. I don't have the energy to make everything level now either since there are bigger projects waiting
