Planning to build a staircase from the balcony to the patio on the ground floor. I think a steel spiral staircase is too expensive, so I'm considering building a straight staircase out of wood. I've sketched out a couple of images. But maybe you can see what I have in mind. First, cut an opening in the balcony railing, where a landing will be built that connects to the staircase. Has anyone done something similar and can offer tips? Dimensions, etc. I've seen ready-made stringers, but they are up to seven steps. The level difference is 3 meters, so I estimate it will require 15-16 steps. I imagine there will also be a need for support halfway up the staircase.

  • Drawing of a wooden staircase design from a balcony to a ground-level patio, showing approximate placement and structure against the house wall.
  • Illustration of a proposed wooden staircase design from a balcony to a lower patio, with hand-drawn steps over a real image of the balcony setting.
Hey, I'm in the process of a similar build. I also want to build stairs from the balcony to the deck below, haven't ruled out a spiral staircase but I'm afraid it might feel more like an emergency exit rather than a natural feature in the house design. How did it go for you, did you manage to get some stairs in place?
