Hello, I need expert help with this issue, let's see if I'm thinking correctly. I currently have a summer house on pilings that is quite tilted. I will install new pilings when I straighten the house.
Today, the house rests on thick boards on the pilings, which are lengthwise with the house.
What I'm considering doing is laying new boards crosswise from the lengthwise ones that the new pilings will support. This way, I hope to make it stronger as these boards will be new, strong boards, while the older ones remain above, am I thinking correctly?
I've gotten the idea that the house should stand more stable when a row of lengthwise pilings are not dependent on each other, as it is today. Instead, with my method, the pilings will be crosswise (if anyone understands my way of reasoning =) ) interconnected and I think this should result in less force if the house wants to move a little.
Or are you required to follow today's supporting boards, i.e., lengthwise?
