Read this article https://www.hd.se/2021-10-21/250000-hem-utan-strom-efter-stormen about the storm in France. Is it just me or do the roof trusses look very weak for a slate roof? I understand that the snow load in Brittany is negligible, but the French are otherwise known for having produced good engineers .....
The roof indeed seems to have held together fairly well, so perhaps that's not where the dimensioning problem lies.
Also, the rafters are quite close together; otherwise, I would guess that the snow load is the difference.
It could be truss rafters, I don't see any signs of an attic interior. In that case, the dimensions would be quite small in that part of France. Against real hurricane forces, not much holds up.
