Hello! I need to replace the subframe on my roof trusses with steel cables. Does anyone know where I can buy these? I've searched around a bit online but haven't found any useful sites, especially with prices.
 
Are you looking for any specific quality or thickness? If it's just a regular wire, you can go to any hardware store.
 
Spontaneously, reasonable steel wires should be available in boat shops?
What you need should probably resemble what's in the rigging on larger sailboats?
 
A clear disadvantage of boat accessories is that they are dizzyingly expensive.

I was considering a similar solution in the attic of the summer house but only needed to remove one support and it became a construction where the loads were redistributed to the two supports on the side instead. Curious about how you planned to solve the attachment (to the sides) and get a tensioned line, because I couldn't come up with a perfect solution for that. I was a bit inclined towards boat parts in the form of a turnbuckle (I think that's what it's called) to tension the line.
 
I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing, which is replacing the tie beam with wire/steel cable.

There are different types of terminals (end fittings) for steel cables. For example, you can get them with a threaded rod at the end that can be used to tension the cable. (see image below) I'm planning to design some fittings myself to attach to the truss.

I'm contemplating on the sizing a bit. One simple way is to size the steel cable so that it has at least the same breaking load/stiffness as the wooden tie beam. Currently, there's a finger joint there and if I recall correctly, it's 45x170. I'll do some calculations and get back on this.

Just a thought
I don't want to scare anyone, but the lower chord of the truss takes on two different types of loads. Snow and self-weight create a tensile force in the lower chord while wind can create compression forces. So if you remove all the lower chords and replace them with cables, there is some risk that the roof could "blow off." Naturally, larger roofs = greater risk, and it can be solved, just thought you might want to check it out before you're standing there with a collapsed roof and an insurance you've paid for every year but that doesn't apply when you've significantly altered parts of the building's load-bearing structure...
 
Why make such a switch? I mean, what is the benefit of replacing the wooden forearm with a steel wire? Asking out of pure curiosity and ignorance.
 
Good points! You should definitely pay special attention to the wind load component.

The reason for the change is purely aesthetic. I plan to have it open up to the ridge and want to create as much free space as possible.
