Hello!
We are going to move 3 windows in a load-bearing exterior wall. Lightweight concrete. A builder advised us to use 2 beams 45×195 glued/nailed together. Now, we don’t have space for these due to ceiling height. Can we switch to a steel beam? Does anyone know what dimension of steel beam corresponds to this wooden beam? Can you attach a steel beam to lightweight concrete? Is it best to place one long steel beam over all the windows and attach to the wall, or have three steel beam constructions above each window?

How many en is it about
Maybe you should turn off the spell check function on your computer/phone and rewrite the whole thing!

Hello and welcome to the Byggahus forum!

Two glued and nailed (or screwed) 45x195 C 24 beams correspond to a HEA 100 steel beam, which is 100 mm high, give or take a few mm. I would preferably like to know a bit more about the windows, width measurements, and the distance between them. Also, more details on what type of load the beam is supposed to handle. A steel beam can be attached to lightweight concrete. In the latest episode of the TV program Husdrömmar, they attached steel beams to walls made of lecasten, which is fairly equivalent. It’s always better to have one long continuous beam than three short ones.

Hello! The windows are 100cm wide. Distance about 55 cm between two of them and 45 cm between two of them.

And the cargo is an upper floor.

Plus the roof. With such a short span of 1 meter, no particularly strong beam is required. I think that 2 pieces of 45x195 is excessively much. I suggest you skip the idea of steel. Provide a sectional drawing and information about the snow zone so I can calculate it.

Hi! Snow zone Stockholm?

  • Blueprint of a house showing the south elevation, including the roof, windows, and door design.
It is an elevation drawing. A sectional drawing is a cross-section that shows what the roof truss looks like. There must also be a width measurement on the house.

Hello,
we do not have a sectional drawing, but we did remove a piece from the ceiling to see how the floor structure looks, and there is a beam that currently lies over all four windows. The question is whether that beam needs to be replaced or if we can keep it. We are moving the windows but not making them larger, so maybe we don't need to replace the current beam. Attaching pictures.
