I have just moved into a house and am new to the forum... and I have a little staircase question:
We have a U-shaped staircase, and the stairwell is somewhat "trimmed."
If you are around 1.80 like me and my wife, you hit your head around the 4th step.
So my question is simply whether it is possible to build a new nice staircase that is a bit kinder to the head despite this stairwell?
Some measurements (ATAB):
Stair height - measured vertically from lower floor to upper floor edge: 290
Room height - measured vertically from lower floor to ceiling: 260
Arch thickness (floor joist thickness): ~30
Stair's horizontal 1st outer length measured from front of the starting step to the wall: 170
Width - 2nd horizontal outer length: 250
Floor to wall upper plan - 3rd horizontal outer length: 125
It is certainly possible, there are many competent stair construction companies - contact some of them and I think you'll get many good ideas, or were you planning on building one yourself?
The house is a few years old?
So previous inhabitants have managed to survive somehow, perhaps.
A suggestion, before you tear down the stairs:
Put up some kind of foam cushioning right where the head usually hits.
Preferably covered with fabric in a bright color.
After a while, you might learn to automatically bend your neck a little.

It could be an estate with a disclaimer clause. It might depend on the staircase
Joking aside, building functional and attractive staircases is a difficult craft, but a beautiful staircase often enhances a house .
You're surely familiar with the classic step formula? 2x step height + 1x tread should be 63 cm +/- 2cm. A comfortable staircase to walk on has a step height of max approximately 17 cm.
