Hello!

I have a problem with our staircase; it started with the part just above the top step becoming loose and moving when you walk on it (see the first picture). I didn't think much more of it, but when I analyzed the problem a bit more, I realized that the entire staircase has "settled" by 0.5-1 cm.

It feels a bit worrying! So I tore off the Masonite under the staircase to see what might have happened. I can't find anything obvious. One strange thing is that the vangstycke running along the wall doesn't seem to be screwed into the wall. Is that normal? I assume the staircase is supported by leaning against the wall (like a ladder).

What might have happened, has the vangstycke shrunk? :)

EDIT: I see that the pictures are upside down...

  • Image shows the underside of a wooden staircase with a detached section, highlighting where the riser meets the top step. The image is upside down.
  • Wooden staircase with loose top step and intricate metal railing, viewed from below. The stairs appear to have shifted slightly.
  • Upside-down image of a staircase, showing a loosened step and exposed understructure, questioning if the stringer should be attached to the wall.
