I am thinking of furnishing the attic, and the attic hatch needs to be removed and a proper staircase arranged. However, the space is not very large, so I'm not quite sure how to proceed. The hallway under the attic hatch is 2.80m long and just under 2 meters wide. The height from floor to floor is just under 2.70m. From my calculations, a straight staircase, right where the attic hatch is, would be very steep. Any tips?
Completely dependent on how much traffic there will be up to the attic...
But a loft staircase with cutouts from the steps is very short (and steep).

But it might not be so suitable if there is frequent running up and down.

There will be bedrooms and a living room, so a steep staircase won't work.
A straight staircase probably needs to be at least 3.5 meters long, for your floor height to be only on the verge of steepness. Then you also need a bit of space on the ground floor to even be able to reach the start of the staircase.
A U-shaped staircase can manage with about 1.8 x 2-2.4. But this would block the hallway for through traffic, which I assume would not work.

3.25m would probably suffice. 15 steps each with a height of 18cm and a length of 25cm. However, there's no chance for this and closing off the hallway is impossible, since we wouldn't have access to half the house.Mikael_L said:A straight staircase would need to be at least 3.5 meters long, for your floor height to only be on the verge of steep. It'll be difficult, the only place that might work is to tear down the wall into the kitchen and put it up there. But then the entire kitchen has to be moved as well, which is a project in itself...yens said:
Unfortunately, we don't have a room where we can place the staircase, except for the hallway. However, we have been considering remodeling the kitchen, so it's not impossible that we might end up taking a bit from the kitchen to make room for the staircase.
