I have a cabin on a mountainside up north. In winter, the wind blows quite hard between the mountains, and it always drifts a large amount of snow over the steps up to the cabin. An endless damn amount of shoveling.

I'm thinking of building a side on the existing steps to counteract the worst of the snow drift. The new side won't function as a railing, as I have a railing on the other side. There, it's not really a side to speak of, just a few posts to make it easier to shovel the snow down the slope.

As I've envisioned it, the side consists of vertical slats made of 45x45mm basic lumber with a 20mm gap between them.

The 45x45mm slats are screwed at the bottom directly into the existing stringer, which if I remember correctly is the 45x220mm variant. The whole thing is stabilized at the top by a horizontal 45x45 rail. Two screws at the bottom, one at the top.

Do you think this will be stable enough? If not, how would you improve it?
