An old attic staircase has no railing today, but after the renovation now I will install a railing. The question is what I should use for the posts. The ready-made ones are too short since I need to attach them to the floor joists. Can I use a planed post and install it? Or how much will it crack since all these are stored in cold storage in the building supply store?

Go to the hardware store and choose good 45x90 and glue two of them together to make 90x90.

Yes, but when they are planed, it doesn't look very nice to glue two together as there is often a bit of rounding on the edges.

Thank you! You can count on them! The weekend is saved.
