Angle grinder with a diamond blade. Use it outdoors somewhere where it doesn't matter if it gets insanely dusty.
A bricklayer would probably use a bricklayer's hammer, but that requires a bit more sensitivity to the material to get the stone to split as desired.

Bricklayer's hammer is a bit tough in that regard, in my experience.
I have solved it by tracing a couple of centimeters with an angle grinder on both sides using a regular cheap 115 mm stone disc (Bosch) and then breaking it with iron in the groove and mallet. A safe and cheap method but not for mass production. Being outdoors is a must when the angle grinder is to tackle bricks, as mentioned. The dust is not something to play with.
