I have a broken ~3x7 inch beam in my intermediate floor.
Since 3 inch is not available now, I thought to splice it since I have the same dimension but in short length.
Splicing seemed to be the way to go, I checked out
Träguiden's fine example.
But, what should I use for nails (or screws)?
Anchor nails are recommended for nail plates, but they seem to only come in small/short dimensions.
Regular "Wire nails" are available in lengths over 150mm, will they suffice?
Such a box costs about ~300:- and I need ~16 pcs (you only nail from one side right?)
So I got a bit stingy and wondered if I can buy screws individually (at, for example, Bauhaus) instead, but then what should I choose?
It is also recommended to glue. PU glue costs ~250:- for a whole bottle, PL-400 is cheaper.
Now the costs start to add up more than buying one (or double?) brand new 45*170mm (~120:-/each) or glulam beam.
The choice to splice was initially because I didn't want to buy new ones when I already have the wood material, which might have been wrong thinking.
What should I do, I don't want to impair the construction, rather the opposite. Go for double nailed/glued 45*170? I already have such nails, and those are used, which 150mm are not.
