I have an old staircase that will get a new surface in the form of oak lamellar. When I removed the carpet that was glued to the stairs, I see that the steps are significantly worn. See picture. What can I use to patch it to get an even surface? Sanding down doesn't seem feasible since the wear is up to 8mm.

  • Close-up of a worn wooden staircase step, showing significant wear and tear, with a ruler indicating up to 8mm of surface loss.
It turned out to be Ardex A31 filler, works great, dries quickly!
