I live in an apartment and have a big problem with my current wall, which is a thin ciporex wall, letting through all the noise. The wall stands against my neighbor, and as it is now, I can hear everything from TV to regular conversation.

I can't tear down the wall, so my only option is to build a new soundproof wall on the existing one.

All I'm looking for is to reduce the noise level as much as possible while ensuring the wall doesn't get too deep. What I'm thinking of doing is building a wall with 45 studs and then adding double drywall.

But I would like to hear your opinion on what materials I should choose for the wall to maximize noise reduction.

Do not attach the studs to the existing wall... also insulate the wall... weatherstripping or seal any possible gaps...

Is there better insulation to buy or does anything work? I also have a question about how to set up the wall. I currently have real wooden flooring and I'm considering whether to place the wall directly on the floor or if I should cut away the floor and place the wall on the over-concrete (sand-insulated floor, old house).

I would have placed it on the current floor, add some padding between the sill and the floor and likewise against the ceiling. Sill insulation or another rubber mat works. Position the new studs 20-30 mm from the existing wall so you get air between the walls. Then, I'm not sure if OSB + drywall provides better soundproofing than double drywall, but you get a sturdier wall that you can screw directly into. Seal all gaps against the ceiling, floor, and wall with latex caulk. Insulate with mineral wool, I believe it soundproofs slightly better, but maybe someone else can answer that.

If you can and feel like you have the space, you can glue plasterboard to the existing wall before you start according to the instructions earlier in the thread. Plasterboard has good density, and the heavier the walls, the better the soundproofing.

At Beijer, there is insulation called Isover Piano that is said to have better sound insulating properties.

Interesting. Gluing on gypsum. It feels like a double layer of gypsum is needed. Is it possible to glue on and then screw in the next layer of gypsum?
Ciporex is not the best for screwing in.

A dream would be not to have to build out the wall too much. A 45 stud already feels like a lot, but if it reduces noise, it's worth it.

Solid, dense materials block sound more than insulation (except for special insulation?)
It should be possible to glue two layers. Besides, the gypsum won't go anywhere ;)
Maybe you can reduce 45x45 to 30 something? If you want to save space. The wall is being built for the sake of sound and probably won't be stressed that much?
