I live in a house from the 1920s built with a plank frame.
The windows are double-glazed windows from the 60s-70s.
Unfortunately, we have a rather busy road right around the corner, and mainly in the bedroom, we are disturbed by noise from the road.
A noise barrier won't help as the upper floor is quite high above the road.
A lot of noise goes through the window, so it should naturally be replaced, but I also feel that some low-frequency noise goes through the plank frame and sloped ceiling.
The best solution is to build internally and create a room within a room so that the "new" interior walls have as little contact as possible with the exterior wall/sloped ceiling. However, I think it takes up too much space.
Considering gluing something like Armaflex on the affected walls and then screwing up thick and heavy plyboard with as few screws as possible onto that and then plasterboard.
Any opinions or other methods?

I would probably start with a complete sound measurement where you can see the sound pressure level for the different frequency ranges. It's a good basis for further decisions. Not a measurement according to the dB(A) scale, which is totally useless when it comes to assessing traffic noise. I would then opt for extra inner windows rather than new windows. Insulation against cold and noise are two completely different things. It's important to achieve as large an air gap as possible.
A three-inch plank frame with (I guess) crack panel, reed mat, and plaster on the inside is not the worst you can have if it's low-frequency noise you want to keep out. Against low-frequency sound, only two things really help 1) as heavy a frame as possible and 2) some form of membrane absorber, i.e., a board with slits or holes with air behind it. The solution you've outlined I don't think is worth the effort. Ideally, the measures should be on the outside.

When it comes to sound, three things are important. Two independent wall frames as you mentioned, the weight of the wall, and sealing of gaps.
So the best thing you should do is first seal all the angles before you start putting up new panels. Also around windows. Fire sealant is the most effective, although a bit more expensive. Otherwise, regular soft sealant works. Then you put up drywall in a certain number of layers; plywood doesn't give much more but is much more expensive.
