I am preparing a room in the basement for one of the kids. It's a walk-out basement with plastered walls. Recently drained etc. I am framing the walls with about a 30 mm air gap between the plaster and the OSB boards. The ceiling is concrete. Is it a bad idea to think about insulating, or is an air gap needed in the ceiling as well? (I will not be insulating the walls). My other thought is to add some form of sound insulation there (I would appreciate tips on suitable, low-cost materials). Soundproofing is of interest for several reasons, such as our bedroom being above ;) Just kidding. Music will probably be played loudly down there, and there will be stomping above in the morning. The concrete floor helps somewhat, but I want to make it as good as possible. Thanks in advance.

Check out Träullit... it's a bit "high school ceiling," but maybe effective in this case.

I say you install a gypsum ceiling. 2 layers of gypsum with about a 10 cm air gap and some insulation. Should do the job. Concrete is really effective at handling sound. The gypsum adds a little extra. I think the biggest concern will be the sound from the basement, hardly the other way around.

Wood wool or the like reduces the echo in the room and helps a little to aid the overall sound insulation. An okay solution, but it can look quite dull.

Thank you for the feedback and opinions. Could not find any prices for träullit. I can have a maximum of 5 cm of insulation or similar since the ceiling is already quite low.
