Hello! First and foremost, I want to say, great forum! It's wonderful when there are experienced people who share their knowledge.

I'm in the process of designing my first build, which will be a combined stable for 4 horses and a two-car garage.
However, I've hit a first obstacle, and that is how in the world I should solve the connection at the ridge between the two buildings. I would prefer to avoid glulam beams and ridge beams as much as possible, cost-wise. The attics should be separated.

Yes, I could have clarified that. It should be reinforced plastic with rafters, as well as a metal roof.

What I'm pondering is exactly how to attach the rafters in the valley. Is it just about mitering in planks between the trusses, parallel to the roof slope? It might sound a bit confusing, but that's mostly because it actually is.

The places I have been to have nailed raw boards in the valleys to make it organized when the sheet metal is placed there. If you do as on the drawing, I would have used nailing plates and possibly some rule if needed, it is solved on site :D

Why?

You lose both space and some "function" like larger common areas?
 
Robban: That doesn't sound too bad! I guess it will work itself out on site as you say, but I'm trying to ease the construction process by making most mistakes on the drawing board instead of having to make changes to something already completed, if you know what I mean. :P

John: The idea is to have a hayloft over the stable part, and storage above the garage. I basically have to separate them, sure you could do that with a partition wall but then I think the costs might run away, construction-wise.
