Hello!
I have searched high and low, and either my light isn't enough or it's hard to find... I'm looking for a large amount of soapstone. I have called various stove manufacturers etc. who cannot supply the amount I need. I am considering using soapstone for the bathroom floor, among other things. If anyone knows where I can purchase soapstone in larger quantities (preferably reasonably thin slabs, i.e., not 10 cm thick), please write it here. It would really help me out.

Regards, Jonas

ps if I’ve posted in the wrong place, feel free to move it. I thought building materials was the right place.

How has the search for soapstone gone? I have a future need for soapstone, but I can't find any suppliers either.

Hi wjon,

soapstone is quite soft (you can "carve" it). So it might not be the most suitable for floors.

Why are you so fixated on it?

Maybe a bit off topic, but I'm curious

wjon seems to want to use it for flooring. Personally, I'm renovating a baking cottage and want to cover the bottom of the baking oven with some larger slabs of soapstone. But as I said, seems difficult to obtain?

Soapstone for floors I don't think is very good, as it absorbs grease and the like, resulting in stains.

OK, I was curious why wjon was so eager to have such an unusual flooring material.

Sure, it can be beautiful,
(as long as you don't put a soapstone stove on it).

It's interesting that in some cases people really chase pennies,
like in heating systems, windows, you name it,
and in other cases, they are pretty much blind to the cost.

Why is that?
Is it the self-perceived status of being unique?

I bought Tulikivi soapstone tiles for my sauna from Spiscenter in Örebro. They can probably order tiles for you, http://www.spiscenter.se

I went into Lakkapää (formerly K-rauta) and saw Tulikivi's soapstone tile slabs on display. There were quite a few variants to choose from. However, no salesperson was available, so I didn't get a price. Anyone here have a ballpark estimate of what these tiles cost per m2? Are we talking 500 SEK or 3000 SEK per m2?
