Hello!
I have a friend who is building a pergola. Now beams need to be placed between supports, with a length of 5.2m. What dimension is needed? There won't be much more than the weight of the beams themselves and some climbing plants to support, but the span is large.
A little deflection is naturally okay, but it shouldn't look odd. Grateful for any input!

Hello Daniel!
If you calculate 20 kg per meter, 45x170 C 24 is the smallest possible dimension. Considering that the pergola is always outdoors and that the eye is sensitive to that type of deflections, I would choose 45x220 C 24.
