We are planning to create an opening in the load-bearing wall and have some considerations regarding the beam sizing.

The load-bearing wall currently consists of 190mm leca and to maintain the character of the house, we want to use a 6x6" wooden beam to transfer the load off the wall.

I mostly find sizing information for glulam, does anyone know where I can turn for information or have data on a 6x6" beam?

The opening will be 1300mm.
 
Normally, a 6x6 is used as a pillar, so I suspect it may be difficult to find the bending strength for it.
Why does it have to be 6x6? Is it going to be visible?

Perhaps a designer can be helpful.
 
I was doing some calculations for fun, to refresh my memory regarding calculations.

What I came up with was that a 6"x6" (152.4x152.4mm) beam with a free span of 1.3 m should be able to support a distributed load of about 18 kN/m. But this is based on several assumptions.
1. Timber quality C14
2. Braced against buckling
3. Ultimate limit state is the determining factor
4. Self-weight of the beam is negligible
5. No defects in the material

I also haven't considered the bearing length, although it shouldn't be much. However, I did some calculations on the serviceability limit state and found that the deflection should be around 3.3 mm (limit value 3.7 - 5.2 mm), which should indicate that the ultimate limit state is the determining factor.

Now, you shouldn't take this at face value, but only see it as an indication. As I said, I need to refresh my memory. Consult a (real) designer for clear advice.
