I am building a fence for the porch and am thinking of using horizontal 45 x 45 mm battens. The longest stretch is about 10 meters. Instead of joining two battens at a post, I thought about biscuit joining all the battens to the necessary length. Has anyone done something similar? Maybe some tips on a suitable biscuit joiner that would suffice for that purpose?

Or does it seem like overkill to do so?

I think it will be better if you cut half-and-half instead, a much stronger joint. Make the notch around 50-60 mm wide and 22.5 mm deep and glue together. If you have a miter saw with adjustable cutting depth, it's quite a simple operation. You can also rout it.

I was also considering 50/50 but mostly thought that it might look aesthetically nicer with 25/25/25/25?! I need to think and do some tests to also find out how big the workload is, I estimate that I need to make about 20 joints.
