Sheet metal roof, a choice we made for aesthetic reasons, but gosh, how I regret it right now. Strangely, we weren't bothered by the sheet metal roof we had on the old cottage; that roof never rumbled. So what’s the issue?

We have a completely new 1½-story simple house (18x9m) with no roof lanterns, only a chimney breaking off in the middle of one side. The upper floor may possibly be made habitable in 2-3 years. Then we might add some roof windows. The middle roof has blown insulation on the long sides and mineral wool boards in the middle, but no floor on top of that. The roof is also not insulated.

So, should a sheet metal roof actually rumble this much? It seems very wind-sensitive. The roof was done in winter, it was -20 degrees then I remember. Could this have contributed to the “poor” tension in the roof? If so, can a tinsmith improve the folding?
Or is it enough to insulate the roof to get rid of the noise? I am unsure where the sound actually comes from, is it through the middle roof or through our windows?
I’ve never gone out or up in the attic to listen when the rumbling is at its worst (since it always happens in sleepy night-time). It would feel silly to panic-insulate the entire upper floor if it turns out that the noise from the roof sneaks in through our "floor-to-ceiling windows."

What measures should we start with? What is the culprit in the situation?
Grateful for some knowledge about folded sheet metal roofs because the roof builders naturally do not mention any negative effects or mistakes that might occur.

The problem is likely to decrease significantly when you insulate the ceiling.

I had a similar issue with a drain that was very noisy, inserted some mineral wool between the pipe and the wall, and it became almost completely quiet.

Right now, the ceiling functions a bit like a drumhead, but once you add insulation, the sound waves will remain more in the insulation.
 
Probably as you say, Dr. Fozz. The last house we lived in with a metal roof had an old "pärt-tak" (is that the right term in standard Swedish?) underneath, so maybe that’s why the noise wasn’t heard. But I also can't shake the thought that the roofers were careless and made the roof way too "loose." According to my physical knowledge, a metal roof should contract at -20 degrees, and now that the roof is warmer at around +-0, it has expanded...
 
Do you know what the standing seam width on the roof is? I have a feeling that in Finland they sometimes use wider strips than what is allowed here. In Sweden, the standing seam width is 600mm for regular steel sheets (670mm on a roll).
The wider the strip, the more it "pumps" - and if it was installed during severe cold, it obviously gets worse.
