We are completely sold on double-seamed roofing, both aesthetically and practically. Done right, we should have a maintenance-free house for many years, or is there anything to watch out for?
Our house is inspired by barns, about 7.5 x 17 m, with a ridge height of 7.5 m. No corners or nooks. We plan to use the same sheet metal for both the roof and facade.
We're building on the west coast but in the countryside with the sea about a kilometer away. Due to the salty environment, we are thinking of aluminum, coated in matte black or dark gray. A sheet metal worker will do the job. Not a click system like Plannja trend as we think it would be too "flat."
Any thoughts? Attaching some example images.
Opinions can vary, so negative taste and preference can be left out.
Thanks in advance!
I would have easily done it if I didn't live in a 1 1/5 story house from the 30s...
But make sure to find a skilled tinsmith...
That can easily end up looking like a train wreck...
Högskolan Dalarna built their lab with band-tacking sponsored by SSAB, their Prelaq Energy(?) I believe. Might be a good choice if you are considering this
Unfortunately, the execution left a lot to be desired;
I dig your examples and could easily imagine this type of facade on a new build
We have a standing seam metal roof on the house and three things to consider strike me:
It becomes sun-bleached in about a decade and as far as I know, it's not something you repaint yourself. So one should probably consider a color that works when faded.
It gets incredibly hot. Make sure to insulate properly and perhaps build in a place where you would like to generate as much heat as possible.
It makes quite a bit of noise, especially when it rains. Consider if you can soundproof in some way, or at least ensure that the noise doesn't disturb you.
Would have been fun to have your building as a neighbor, I build everything with wood myself so the contrast with the two houses would have been fun to see
Please upload more pictures when you're done so we can see the whole thing
You can see more pictures if you follow us on IG _villalyckan. Regarding construction structure, there will likely be a feature later this year online and in magazines.
