Hello, I don't know if this is the right forum, but maybe it can be moved. We are a housing association with older buildings, built in 1958, that has started addressing fire safety issues. We are required to follow the regulations that were in effect in 1958. However, we have found out that all doors, except for the apartment doors, adjacent to a stairwell must have door closers installed today. From what I understand, our old doors are not required to form a closed fire compartment or withstand fire, but to prevent/delay smoke from filling the stairwells.
In the basement, we have a passage, 1.5 m long, from the stairwell into a corridor with laundry rooms, etc. For us, it would be much easier to install a door in that passage so that the doors in the laundry corridor wouldn't need to be modified. However, there are several pipes running in the ceiling of this passage. These are hot/cold water, heating, and sewage pipes, 6 in total. The door itself fits under the pipes, but there will be a square above the door, perhaps 0.4m x 1.20m where the pipes go. Is there any method to seal around the pipes? I imagine some form around the pipes and filling it with foam or something. As mentioned, the construction probably doesn't need to withstand fire, but smoke.
