Hello!
I need to brick/cast over a hole in the chimney breast and also even out and repair after chiseling out a new hole.

I can put a support on the back of the hole that needs to be bricked/cast over since there is an inspection hatch next to it. Should I use bricks as much as possible and brick it up, or should I cast over with something like concrete?

A friend told me I can use concrete (I have a 0-6 sack) even if I’m bricking it up with bricks, and I can also pour in some primer (adhesive) into the mix since I have some leftover.

Tips/advice are gratefully received!

Take the bricks and build as well as you can. Don't forget to moisten the surrounding surfaces.

But will it be good with concrete, or should I use mortar?

Is there no mason here? :)

What I'm wondering is what distinguishes mortar and concrete. I realize that it's more difficult to lay with concrete because the stones get damaged during the actual paving, but that's not a problem in my case, and it's not particularly coarse concrete either.

I believe in concrete because it's probably better for filling in, but are there any disadvantages, such as it cracking more easily during the curing process?

Thanks in advance!

Concrete is actually intended for casting, but I think you can use it in this case anyway. That's what I would have done. ;)

That sounds safe! :)

If anyone can provide some technical information, it would be interesting, but otherwise, I'll go with concrete!

Stupid to mix materials, better to use what already exists, that is stone and murbruk.

Brick and C-bruk.

It ended up being concrete after all, and I think it went well.

I didn't use any stones at all but instead filled the hole with concrete. It was a bit tricky to get the concrete dry enough so it wouldn't flow away and at the same time wet enough to adhere. I made dry concrete and sprayed with water where I needed it to adhere. It worked well, but it would have been fun to see how a pro would have done it :)
