I have a 20-foot factory-insulated container that is heavily rusted. On the roof, I have a 50x50mm rust hole and also longer tears in the roof/wall transition that have holes. I would have liked to weld the holes shut but don’t want to risk it catching fire :)

Almost the entire long side is full of holes, up to 20mm in size.

Solution for the roof: I thought about gluing a new sheet over the large hole but what to do with the long side? Considering screwing a new sheet over the entire side, but how do you seal it nicely at the ends/top?

Tips on primer in larger quantities?

Zinc-rich epoxy 2k paint as a primer. It fixes everything.

2k epoxy sounds expensive? Any specific manufacturer I should look for?

Is Biltema's rostskyddsprimer good enough?
Resin-based rust protection primer with zinc, for most metals. Dries in 8–12 hours (depending on temperature) and provides a primed surface ready for overpainting. NOTE! Must not be overpainted with paint containing acetone, cellulose, or polyurethane. Gray.

I just saw that Hagmans has a spray-on version. Which is convenient. 90% zinc in it is good. It takes a long time for rust to come through.

I was thinking of such a large amount that, for example, you could paint the ceiling (20m2), and that would probably come with quite a hefty cost, but the idea with 2k epoxy is definitely a good one.

I repainted my metal roof this summer with Hagmans roofing paint. A water-based primer with a bit of zinc in it and an acrylic top coat. Seems good so far. The primer was available in liter packaging and the topcoat was probably at least 5 liters. Might be an alternative. Otherwise, most manufacturers have good primers with good rust protection.
