After destroying a lot of plaster walls with rotating expanders, someone taught me the 'side cutter trick' :)
You take a side cutter and place the flat side against the wall and the concave side against the expander screw head and 'pinch' to start the expansion - then you can either screw the screw against the pliers and pinch again, or carefully screw in and let it fully expand.
Works like a molly-tongue which you rarely have at home and costs a few bucks. :)

I think a 4.2mm mounting screw is a bit flimsy for overhead cabinets.
I would rather use a 6mm with a rounded head for the purpose.

Agree!

I used 5x50. Have 13 mm gypsum on 12 mm OSB.

Have you experienced cabinets falling down, or is it just a gut feeling?

Gut feeling.

5x50 has significantly coarser threads than montage screw.

The mounting screw holds securely... but the feeling says it's somewhat flimsy. Also, the mounting screw is PH2, I prefer Torx.

Does the rounded head have Torx?

Yes... Essve's do, and I believe Biltema also has similar screws. A domed head is better for IKEA cabinets because it has a flat back and works better with their angle brackets. For upper cabinets that lack angle brackets and have a "batten" at the back, I screw with a countersunk head.

Good tips!
