Hello!

Just daydreaming a bit and got curious about how to build a screw press. The subject of the daydream is a fruit press where the press is turned with a screw instead of using a jack, like in the attached image.

I tried to find out what material is used for the screw part itself. It feels like there's some sort of threaded insert or similar that sits in the beam? Are these parts available to buy somewhere if you find the right term for them, or do you have to go to a machine shop for that?

So, I'm curious about what you call the screw with the handle and the equivalent of a threaded insert that might sit in the beam :)

Wooden fruit press with a metal screw and hand crank, designed for pressing fruits. The screw is mounted in a wooden frame.

The screw is trapezoidal threaded to both move easily and have a large movement per turn.

Trapezoidal threaded rods and trapezoidal threaded weld nuts can be purchased at screw stores such as Swebolt. Then it's easy to weld a sturdy piece of sheet metal to the nut and weld a piece of round bar to one end of the screw.
