Planning to replace the air vent valves and now considering the choice of screws, since the window frames are not made of solid wood. I live in an apartment and the association replaced the windows with modern ones a few years ago. It's some kind of wood composite in the frames. Wondering if regular wood screws will work or if it's better to use some special screws to ensure they hold securely. When you open and close the air vent with the toggles on each side, there's a certain strain on the screws.

How do the old ones fit?
The shorter one on the left was used before. The one on the right I just bought. I bought a new slot valve to try and installed it. Pre-drilled with a narrower drill bit than usual, and the valve fits well. Just hope it holds in the long run. Could have glued the screw, but I want to be able to change the filter in the hole.

The new slot valve is a classic with two toggle levers on each side. The old one was just two flat irons with lots of holes that were pulled over each other to open and close. Useless and blew the cold air straight out into the room.

Two screws on a gray fabric surface, with the longer, older screw on the left and the shorter, newer screw on the right.
