Anyone know if it's okay to screw concrete screws directly into masonry without a plug? That is, just drill and screw, or is there a risk of it cracking then?

I have these screws and want to attach post holders with a plate directly on top of the masonry. It's Benders Labyrint Maxi, 35x21x14.

Box of concrete screws, labeled "BETONGSKRUV WAFER," showing silver screws in an open cardboard box, used for fastening post bases on masonry.

If the brick is made of concrete and not hollow, concrete screws usually attach well without plugs. I don't know what is recommended for the one you have chosen.

I tested with a smaller concrete screw in a visually similar stone, I think it was a 5.5mm drill bit and it held really well, how it holds in the long run I don't know, of course.

The screw is made to be screwed without a plug. I'm mostly worried about the stone cracking...

Ok, but it didn't crack when you screwed. These should be drilled with 6mm before... hopefully it works!

I would say that there is an extremely low risk of it cracking since concrete screws are gentle on the concrete compared to almost all other fasteners that use pressure to stay in place.

Just stay a good distance from the edges.

Sounds good. Thank you!

I would say the drilling is probably the worst near the edges.
