Of the same quality? Know someone who had chrome-plated drain valves in a hot tub, barely lasted a month before they were rusty, acid-proof or coat them with powder coating.

Stainless steel can get surface rust if not maintained properly. And it doesn't matter if it's A4.

Good stainless steel is non-magnetic, test it with a magnet.

It's not stainless, it's chrome-plated cheap metal

No. Urine is acidic which promotes rust.
Are you joking.... Have been peeing in the shower for 50 years, it never rusts.

The fact that it's non-magnetic only means that it's austenitic stainless steel. Duplex steel, which is magnetic, is superior to regular stainless steel in many cases. However, now we're talking about applications far more severe than bathrooms, so it's probably off topic.

But assessing stainless steel with a magnet doesn't say anything about its quality.

"Austenitic stainless steel
Characterized by a high chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) content, low carbon (C) content, and often an addition of molybdenum (Mo). This is the largest and most important group within stainless steel, including both the common 18/8 and "acid-resistant" steel. Normally, it is non-magnetic but becomes weakly magnetic during cold working."

If it has started to rust, there's no point in polishing, just throw it away and get a new one.

Why is that? Now it looks quite heavily affected, but otherwise, it can definitely be removed.

??

Stainless steel is not a surface coating. If it can be polished or pickled, it becomes like new.

Fulkemisten
My stainless well (or technically it's a drain grate then) usually rusts a bit on the underside, but not that much. I scrub it clean with steel wool once a year. Works perfectly. That can probably be removed too.

Agree with Fulkemisten! It can be cleaned with steel wool many times before it becomes too uneven or too thin.

Steel wool should be avoided, as it consists of steel that rusts.
I think sanding pads work best,
A selection of abrasive pads in different colors, often used as an alternative to steel wool to prevent rust.

Throw it away and get better quality stuff, who has the energy to polish the floor drain all day long, there are more fun things to do.

Sanding pads probably work just as well. I have wells with lots of holes in them, and where the holes have drop edges, so in that case, only steel wool works.

Steel combined with stainless steel sets the stage for endless polishing.
