Rules of thumb for hipped porch roof
I am sitting and sketching on a veranda/porch with a hip roof.
I have looked a lot on Google regarding hip beam, hip porch etc. for tips; there's much more reading available, and I spontaneously feel that it looks quite tricky with many angles
but many have tools to help...
Anyhow, my questions concern the aesthetics.
An acquaintance, carpenter/construction worker (with his own company, though retired as of this year) thought that one should extend as far on the sides as the roof extends forward.
So, should one do so, or should there be the same angle on the sides as outward? If you should have the same angle on both slopes, what is recommended? The idea is for it to have sheet metal, so the minimum roof slope for tiles is not required, but what looks best?
I am open to counter-questions and suggestions.

I think I've realized that you get the same measurement if you have the same angles...
Lucky there are CAD programs that calculate for you when you forget trigonometry....hehe, but feel free to share your thoughts anyway.

How big will it be?
What roof pitch have you planned?

Quite tired after the day, so now I'm not sure if I've come to any conclusions...
Enk Project:
The veranda will be approximately 4m wide and 1.6m deep, will be attached to a symmetrical house, single door of 1m and 6/13 windows, one on each side of the door.
Aluzink, white carpentry.

How large is the eave you have in mind?
Roof pitch of the existing house?

How fun JOW - there's a sketch of a veranda here as well. Mine will be on the short side of the house, which is 6.60 m, and I will try to make the veranda as deep as possible without compromising the aesthetics too much. I hope to achieve a depth of 3.80-4.00 m. My choice of roof comes from the "American veranda" feel, and I will attempt to create a so-called hipped roof.

Yes, this is supposed to be above the main entrance, so to speak, but there are also plans to have a similar solution (though with different measurements, larger) over the terrace. I'm struggling to get the "hip rafter" right in my CAD....
I thought that I could work on the drawing in the evenings now, so it's just a matter of cutting and assembling when the time comes for it, then we won't have to worry about all the angles....

It will be very interesting to follow, please post a CAD image when you start getting it right. I installed CAD yesterday but gave up quite quickly as it was too advanced for me. I'll stick with pencil and paper as usualJOW said:Yes, this should be over the main entrance so to speak, but there are also plans to have a similar solution (different dimensions, larger) over the terrace. I'm attaching an image of a roof that is closest to what I've been thinking myself.
Kind regards
