Planning to remove a load-bearing wall and replace it with a glue-laminated beam with the dimensions 365*115*4500. Is it sufficient to place it on a 45*120 stud and two 45*120 studs on the other side, or is that too weak?
According to the builder, it should be enough.
On the ground floor of a 2-story house.
 
It holds, but I would still take a column that can bear the entire load without needing lateral support; a column is also guaranteed to be straight. A 45x120 can bend if it stands freely before you have attached the wall panels or secured it in some way. But it depends on how it looks in your case.
 
I agree pbengtsson opt for glulam posts 115x115mm instead, it feels like a safer solution in the long term.
 
Has been discussed before, 45x120 works excellently in most cases.

With such sizing on the beam, you must have a decent load on it.
A single 45x120 on one end is, in my opinion, being stingy; purchase a glulam post 115x115 as mentioned above to be sure.
A 45x120 will probably hold, but you also want it as stiff and straight as possible.
I think even Byggmax stocks 115x115?
 
The builder was here today and helped put up the beam. It turned out to be 45x120. The ceiling sagged a little in the middle before we started, but it was pushed up by the beam.

Let's hope that the bedroom upstairs doesn't come crashing down into the living room...
 
I hope the beam is on a load-bearing part of the floor. And not just on the particle board...
 
On one side it stands on the chimney base and on the other side against the framework under the floor.
 
Just as a small comparison of your 2 options. 1st 45x120 can support 3.2 tons 1st 90x90 glulam can support 6.8 tons provided they are built into a wall.
 
Good numbers! I would go with 2pcs 45x120.
 
And I would have used columns with the same dimensions as the beam 115x115 ;-)
 
The golden rule for DIY enthusiasts in these cases is to oversize so you don't feel unsure if it will hold. If 115 is what's needed for it to feel right, go for it!
 
The beam is already in place with a 45x120 so there won't be a 115x115, but I'll probably add another 45x120 just to be on the safe side. The builder has 20 years in the industry so one should be able to trust him, but you never know...
 
Is the stud free-standing or built into the wall? One stud seems too flimsy to me. Put two together and glue and nail them, and it will hold every time.
