Roof truss construction

Hello, I am going to make some more trusses to extend a roof.
The construction I used before is according to the lower drawing.
Now that I'm going to make more, unfortunately, some of the beams are too short, so I plan to do as in the upper drawing instead.
Both are joined with nail plates.

Is that OK?
