There is water damage on the house we might buy. The water leak has been fixed but the damage is still there. How much does it cost to replace a stock on a house built in 1904?

Ojjj... Then you need to specify what kind of timber it is..... do you mean the joists or what is it??? Can you take a picture or something....?

If you specify more what it's about, we can more easily provide help.

Personally, I would never dare to give a price on something like that until at least the facade has been opened up so you can see the extent of the damage.

If you are considering the house, discuss this with the inspector, an exact price is likely impossible to get but they might be able to assess if the moisture has spread further into the beams, etc., so you get an idea of how much needs to be opened up.
Possibly, they can also recommend companies in the area that are skilled at such jobs.

Good luck.

We're having a carpenter come by on Wednesday, so he can take a look and say what it costs. I should probably add that there's no real estate agent involved.

But I'd like to know already now just an idea of what price range it might be.

Feel free to get back to me with your decision, it makes me a bit curious.

Fortunately, there were no problems with the stock. So I can't provide any price information.
Now we'll see if we buy the house *fingers crossed*
