Replace glulam beam with steel beam
Hello!
I'm planning to extend my garage and want a large door, but the roof slope is towards the door. I've received calculations for a glulam beam but can't use it due to space constraints. Is it possible to replace it with a steel beam? If so, what size would replace a glulam beam of 215x450mm and 6m long?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is possible. I'm not capable of calculating it, but it is possible, and you can have a lower beam.
However, it's not an iron beam, it's steel. Iron rarely occurs in its basic form (except, like iron stoves and cast iron frying pans), as soon as it's to be used, steel is made from it.

Are these comparison "tables" also available:
