Hello!

I'm tearing apart my old kitchen from the fifties and spotted this wall behind the pantry. Do you have any tips on what material I can use to fix the wall to make it smooth? I plan to have a refrigerator by this wall.

Old, exposed wall revealed during kitchen renovation, with debris on the floor and window light; planning to place a fridge here. Old, cracked wall surface with visible damage and uneven texture behind a 1950s kitchen pantry.

Rendering mortar, gypsum plaster works.

Use gypsum plaster!
Easy to work with and you can apply layers up to 6 cm at once.
Do not apply too thick a layer directly; instead, fill any holes and make it reasonably even first, then apply an even layer.
Gypsum plaster is extremely difficult to sand, so better to use a bit less and then use regular hand putty to make it smooth and neat. If it’s an uninsulated exterior wall, it might be a good idea to use silicate paint...

Thanks for the tips guys.
