We are renovating an apartment from 1910 and have just chased for electrical wiring in the walls. The plaster is incredibly loose in many places, and on some walls, almost all of it came off. Behind the plaster, there are burnt bricks that appear to be covered in soot. We are considering two options. What do those of you who have done this think?
1. Repair the walls that have few holes and put up drywall on the others. Smooth the walls with joint compound.
2. Like option 1 but use a thin renovation plasterboard as a reinforcing layer.
There is a budget that limits us but we want a nice and durable result. What should we do?
