Hello,

we had a little accident on the stairs at home and now we have a hole about 10cm in size in the drywall in a very visible place. The drywall has come loose diagonally behind, so there is more damaged drywall behind than what is visible in the picture.

Does anyone have tips on how to best repair this? Cut out a patch piece and then attach it and then fill and paint? Just fill with filler and then sand down? Drywall plaster?

Open up and insert some kortlingar then put in a new gypsum patch piece, make sure the kortlingar cover the corners then spackle over.

There are several ways, but the easiest is probably as Knight already wrote. A bit more explained: saw/cut away everything that is loose so you get straight edges. Bevel the edges slightly. Then cut a piece that fits the hole and bevel the edges. In the hole, insert a suitably sized piece of plywood or plank that you screw in through the existing plasterboard. Now you can screw in your new piece and fill and paint. If you want, you can skip the piece behind if you saw at a 45-degree angle and make the inlay piece the same way, but it can be difficult to get it at the right depth. If it's in a place where the risk of new damage seems likely, like door knocks, you might want to take the opportunity to open up larger and reinforce with a larger piece of plywood or OSB that is screwed into the existing plasterboard.
