Hello!

Recently moved into a house where a room in the basement had wallpapered walls and laminate flooring. Since there is a risk with this and it wasn't very nice, I have now removed all wallpaper and flooring.

Basement room with yellow and blue wallpaper featuring cyclists, white shelves, and moving boxes scattered on the floor.
Sorry for all the moving boxes :)

When the floor was removed, it smelled stuffy ("basement"), but after airing for 1-2 weeks, the smell has mostly disappeared. You can still smell it if you get down on your knees and sniff the floor.

After tearing down the wallpaper, glue residues and color from the wallpaper remain on the wall, and some plaster has come off. See the picture below.

Basement room with stripped walls showing wallpaper glue residues and plaster damage. Laminate removed, debris on floor amidst renovation.

I was thinking of installing tiles and painting the walls with silicate paint. I went to the paint store the other day and asked for advice on how to proceed; they strongly advised against using silicate paint as it will react with the material that remains after the wallpaper. They suggested instead that it would be sufficient to use cleaning solution and then apply plaster paint.

I have a few questions
* Does this seem like a reasonable idea considering how it looks?
* Should I instead try to sand off what I can? Isn't there a risk of damaging the existing plaster if I sand too hard?
* Is there any other better solution? :)

My experience is that Silikatfärg adheres to almost everything, so that's probably the least of your problems.
For the wall to be able to breathe, it doesn't matter what you paint with if you have a tight layer underneath, so you need to know what the wall is painted with today.
I myself routed off the outermost layer of the plaster and replastered up above ground level on the outside.
