Hello!

I’m about to embark on renovating the concrete stairs to the entrance in the coming weeks. I plan to do it myself since the quote just for renovating it with concrete was between 20000:- - 40000:-, which for 2 days of work (according to one of those I got a quote from) felt way too overpriced.

I have a plan that is open for revision and I gladly welcome ideas.

Step by step:
1. Chip away old tiles and irregularities (The old tiles are 5cm in the picture)
2. Use Webers bond for concrete
3. Fill out irregularities with Weber repair mortar 45
4. Adhesive for tiles 2cm - Weberset 862 natural stone mortar (should be okay to build up to 20mm according to the product description)
5. Add new tiles (I will try to get whole ones just for the steps, as it is now) where the adhesive above is distributed 1cm on the back of the tile and 1cm on the steps. The tiles should be frost-resistant 3cm. In other words, replace the previous tiles that were 5cm with 2cm adhesive and 3cm tile.

Short version of the plan but is there anything that sounds completely crazy or should be done differently?

Thanks in advance!

  • Entrance steps with cracked tiles and a wooden door in a brick building, planned for renovation.
  • Damaged concrete entrance steps with cracked tiles leading to a wooden front door, adjacent to a red brick wall.
  • Concrete entrance stairs showing chipped tiles, with a white metal railing and adjacent red brick wall, part of a renovation project.

I would have reduced the fix to about 10mm and applied Weber 45 instead of increasing the height, but otherwise, you seem to have a good grasp😉

Perhaps laid the tiles in a pattern to harmonize with the garden tiles on the ground and the brick wall.
