I've brought in one side of a gate that is on the property. As you can see in the picture, it's rotten in places. So now I'm measuring all the parts and planning to ask the local lumberyard staff in Rimbo to cut new material...
But as you might see, the different parts are joined in places.
However, I have limited knowledge in joining wood, so I'm wondering if it's okay to screw and glue together a new gate or how would you do it?
Why don't I just buy a new gate and put it together? Well, it's fun to saw, nail, sand, screw and get it right, and you learn a lot of things in the process.
If you like woodworking and learning new things and have some patience, I think that looks like a perfect project to learn how to join with tenons and mortises in the traditional way. You don't need much more than a couple of good chisels and a good backsaw. On YouTube, there are plenty of really good videos that describe the technique.
