Hi,
I am renovating a room in the basement where it will become a laundry room and a shower cabin. I don't have major requirements, but it's nice if it turns out well while I'm at it :-)

I'm thinking a bit about the ceiling, currently, there is wooden paneling, kind of rough-sawn with small gaps. I could live with the paneling and just repaint it (it's painted white) but the downside is that sawdust falls through the gaps, which feels a bit unfortunate if we're going to fix up the room. There are also many pipes hanging from the ceiling, making it a bit difficult to do something properly, but I have some thoughts that I hope to get some opinions and suggestions on:

Today's ceiling height is about 215 cm, which I don't want to reduce too much by building the ceiling downward.

1. Leave it as it is, paint and try to seal the worst gaps where the most debris falls through with caulk. (This should be the easiest solution...)
2. Cover the ceiling with a board, preferably with low construction height. Can you, for example, attach 13 mm plasterboard to the ceiling? Suggestions for other easy-to-work boards, some angles and cutouts for heating pipes, etc.
3. Could one remove the entire ceiling and replace the sawdust with some new insulation and then rebuild, or is it an overwhelming task? We're talking about maybe 20 square meters.

Grateful for Your wise inputs as usual! :D

It sounds like standard gypsum boards would be the simplest and best option. Make sure that boards meeting each other are screwed into the same piece of råspont to prevent cracking. Use boards with recessed edges all around and reinforce with paper strips.

Is there "färdigmålat" ceiling at e.g. Hornbach
And works kind of like click flooring

The panels are, if I remember correctly, 60x120 and are covered with white plastic sheeting.

Looks great when finished, also quick to install.

Chose that for the entire ground floor.

But then the roof won't be completely sealed and debris can seep through the joints. Significantly better than before though! :)

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out too, just wondering how it works to make cutouts for pipes, etc., in such panels?

Just drill, the board is made of wood

Hi,
I'm in the process of renovating a room in the basement where there will be a laundry room and a shower cabin. I don't have big demands, but it's still nice if it turns out well when you're working on it :-)

I'm considering the ceiling a bit, today there is wood paneling, kind of raw plank with some gaps. I could live with the paneling and just paint it again (it's painted white) but the problem is that sawdust falls through the gaps, which feels a bit disappointing if you're going to fix up the room. There are also a lot of pipes hanging from the ceiling, so it's a bit difficult to do something good, but I have some ideas that I hope to get some feedback and suggestions on:

1. Leave it as it is, paint it and try to seal the worst gaps where the most dirt falls with caulking. (Should be the easiest solution...)

3. Could you tear out the entire ceiling, replace the sawdust with some new insulation, and then close it up, or is that an overwhelming task? We're talking maybe about 20 square meters.

Thankful for your wise contributions as usual! :D
