I have a room that was originally a barn in the old cottage. It's the only room in the cottage that has thick brick walls everywhere. The rest of the building is made of wood. The room has thick layers of old plaster that are no longer very intact or pretty. Settling has caused cracks in the plaster, but they are old and haven't moved significantly in the last 20 years (at least).
The plaster can of course be chipped off and replastered, but I really don't want plastered walls. Cold surface and difficult to hang things on brick walls (even tough to drill into, rock hard). I have considered alternatives such as framing thinly and installing OSB or plywood to get the wood surface I want. However, I am uncertain about the construction to avoid moisture in the walls. No insulation is needed from the inside as the cottage is additionally insulated on the outside of the brick wall with mineral wool and then wood siding.
Can I, without the risk of creating moisture problems, frame and install panels? Thoughts, opinions, perhaps from someone who has done something similar?
