I will replace old damaged fabric-stretched ceilings with plasterboard. It will be attached directly to the board. Is thin renovation plasterboard sufficient, or should it be the standard 13 mm plasterboard? How closely should it be screwed?
My experience with renovation plasterboard is that there are bulges around the screws,
13x1200 plasterboard I have battened at 400 cc, and screwed at 150 cc without any sagging anywhere.
I believe it is recommended to batten at 300 cc and screw at 100 cc...

I tore down my old hanging weave last year and applied plaster. I chose to install 22 mm battens and 13 mm standard plasterboard, which was then jointed to achieve a completely smooth ceiling. I had regular tongue and groove under the weave but added battens since I was installing spotlights. The battens were to be installed 300 mm apart.
If you still place it directly against the tongue and groove, I don't think you'll have any problems. Screw it at 200 mm intervals at the joints and along the walls, and at least 300 mm elsewhere. Use 13 mm standard plasterboard, no renovation nonsense.

Agree with the others, lath first, plaster with 13mm gypsum, buy 900 wide panels, they are easier to handle.
It's a crappy job to lath, especially if it's crooked and messed up. My ceilings sag a bit and I want it to be level when it's put up (which is why I didn't want to plaster directly on the old ceiling). So it means using a laser/water level/string and then getting spacers under the laths to make it straight.

Screwing drywall. Which machine should one rent for the fastest result? A regular screwdriver is not particularly fast. A machine with a screw magazine?
