So in our old house, someone has probably removed an alcove and built a transverse wall. I want to remove it, and I'm wondering if I need to reinforce where the old alcove was. In other words, has the wall they made supported or replaced any load?

Attached are two fantastic drawings of how it looks now and how I'm thinking, as well as two pictures from inside the alcove and one showing the dimensions of the wall they built.

  • Hand-drawn floor plan showing attic space redesign with labeled areas: "kattvind", "sovrum", and "garderob". Grid paper background.
  • Hand-drawn floor plan on graph paper showing a potential modification of attic space to remove existing cross-wall, with annotations in Swedish.
  • Close-up of wooden beams and joists in an attic space, showing construction details likely supporting the roof or floor structure.
  • Corner view of an attic with old wooden beams and plaster. Evidence of renovation, showing aged materials and possible structural concerns.
  • View of an interior with wooden wall and ceiling panels, white painted door slightly ajar, showcasing construction details of a renovated attic space.
