I have removed the ugly door frame between the hallway and living room and covered the sides with MDF. Unfortunately, the parquet was laid after the threshold and now I have a gap that needs a floor trim.

Lundbergs(?) widest oak floor trim is a bit ugly and only 120mm. I need something that is wider. Should I go to the local carpenter or does anyone have tips on how to solve this?

I can add that the MDF is 125mm and on this, there will be molding on each side. The left side already has molding.

  • A gap between different wood floorings where a door frame was removed, with MDF panel on one side and the absence of skirting revealing a bare threshold.

Maybe a board that you mill on both sides to overlap the floor a little?

But then you get a kind of threshold, and maybe you don't want that?

Can't you find a plank from the floor on the left? Then you could mill in a groove up to the other floor (to the right, which seems to be laid the other way). There you could lay a narrower molding on top.

That's what I would have done too. A piece of planed wood (oak?) and a router solves the problem. Then you can also easily compensate for any level differences between the floors.

Hmm, could one solve it with a router?
I do have one lying around that I haven't dared to try yet...

Yes, this is exactly what they are for. Now it's just about having the courage... ;) Try it on a scrap piece first to get the technique down before you tackle the "fine wood." If you have questions about handling it, just ask them.

Hehe, this will be fun... Will get back with more questions...
