If you only heat on the upper floor, is it okay to remove the plaster from the chimney stack on the lower floor? It would look nice..
Should be so, but there's only one way to be sure. Call the chimneysweep master and check.
One more little thing. It's not certain that it’s nicely built; it might be constructed with all sorts of strange stone sizes, etc. It might be good to know that there's a risk before you dust down the entire house and discover that you have to redo the plaster.

I couldn't help but start since a lot of plaster had already fallen off. And luckily, it looked nice underneath. A couple of half bricks in a few places, otherwise neat and tidy and a nice color on the brick after a few rounds with the wire brush.
But dusty, cough, indeed.
Stood and tapped with hammer and chisel first, until I realized I actually own an electric chisel... With a wide chisel on it, it was ridiculously quick to remove the plaster.
Then we'll see what the chimney sweep says. I don't currently have a fireplace after the geothermal installation, but I'm planning to get one soon.
