Remove the adhesive from the plastic mat in the stairs

Hello.
I am going to remove the plastic mat that is laid on the stairs. But the adhesive that is there is really hard to remove since it has been stepped on all the time. What's the best way to remove it?

Try using paint remover (Biltema Art nr 36-018), it worked well for me when I had almost given up on the stairs. Just apply it and let it work for an hour, then go at it with a putty knife. Good luck!!!
